A salicylic acid peel is a way to improve the texture and appearance of your skin. Many people use these peels to reduce fine lines and wrinkles, reduce scarring left behind by acne, and even out skin tone. Salicylic acid peels are applied directly to the face as a chemical solution. Other, harsher chemical peels that can be applied at home are glycolic acid, tricholoacetic acid, and lactic acid.
You will chose the right type of peel according to the type of skin that you have and the results you are looking for. Keep in mind that chemical peels are not designed to reduce sagging skin, deep wrinkles, and deep creases on the face. These type of problems will need to be evaluated by a doctor. A salicylic acid peel is recommended for those who wish to treat their mild to moderate acne, scars or wrinkles. Those with darker complexion should avoid using harsh chemical peels and are good candidates for a salicylic acid peel.
Salicylic acid is a beta hydroxy acid found naturally in the bark of a willow tree. This acid gently exfoliates dead skin cells on the surface of the skin. This process also works to remove sebaceous oils and bacteria under the skin. If the oil and bacteria were left alone, acne or other troubling skin problems can develop under the skin’s surface. By removing the dead skin cells from the skin, living skin cells beneath are activated faster and the renewal process is almost instant. The result is smoother and brighter skin.
Once the salicylic acid peel is applied to the skin, the chemical peel begins working. The solution creates a blister on the skin surface. After a few minutes on the skin, the “blister” is peeled off revealing the new skin cells. The amount of time left on the skin will depend again on the type of skin that you have. Individuals with sensitive skin, should only leave the peel on for one to three minutes. If you have normal to combination skin, you can leave the peel on for five to ten minutes. One of the best things about using a salicylic acid peel is the recovery time for your skin is extremely fast, within 24 hours, compared to harsh peels which can take days for your skin to recover from. Of course, remember, that every person will react differently to the peel and that your first applications of the salicylic acid peel should be closely monitored and the directions followed exactly.
This is a potent salicylic acid peel with 30% High Purity Glycolic Acid formulated with Salicylic acid (beta hydroxy acid) and azelaic acid.
